Jeff and I are spending this Christmas here in Denver this year. For me, this is my first Christmas away from my family. I'm kind of sad not to be with everyone, but at the same time its kind of fun to think of having Christmas with just the two of us. It also really has me thinking about what Christmas traditions I want to have with <em>our</em> family. Here are some good links I found on Pinterest:</div>
<br />

<em>Here's a list of my favorites I found while perusing Pinterest:</em><br />
<br />
1) Rudolf's Nose- Get a red ball, "Rudolf's nose," and hide it around the house. The person who finds it gets a prize and hides Rudolf's nose the next day.<br />
<br />
2) Flour or toilet paper 'snow' fights.<br />
<br />
3) Make a Christmas ornament with your kids each year, or have some kind of Christmas craft night.<br />
<br />
4) SMORES!!<br />
<br />
5) Every Friday night in December have a family Christmas movie night.<br />
<br />
6) Mini-Van Express- Get your family in their pj's, get in the car and drive around to look at lights. Bring popcorn, treats, and hot coco. <br />
<br />
7) Make whip cream or shaving cream beards and take a picture. <br />
<br />
8) Blanket forts.<br />
<u></u><br />
<em>And here's some traditions that Jeff and I have stolen from our families:</em><br />
<br />
9)) Read/act out the Christmas Story from the bible on Christmas Eve.<br />
<br />
10) Sleepover under the tree.<br />
<br />
11) Open up a present of new Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve.<br />
<br />
12) Food traditions: Christmas Eve Dinner- Ham, funeral potatoes, vegetables, rolls, olives, pie.<br />
Christmas breakfast: Rice pudding and sausage & egg casserole.<br />
Christmas dinner: Lasagna<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And, I kept my promise to myself for yet another holiday. I made some new Christmas decorations for this year! Here's my house all done up for the Christmas with my new decorations:<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iSfmgMIXMZ0/UrknQ-SUzaI/AAAAAAAACMw/R61jkOauIoA/s1600/178.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iSfmgMIXMZ0/UrknQ-SUzaI/AAAAAAAACMw/R61jkOauIoA/s1600/178.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
Inspiration for these jarred trees were all over this year, from West Elm to Pinterest. All I had to do was save a few glass jars, purchase some trees for a couple dollars at Walmart, and add some glitter and Epsom salt. (I made the penguin snow globe a few years ago with my little sister at one of our craft nights.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tgdNKsviO68/UrknrYij0tI/AAAAAAAACNQ/TBHqlzzusHs/s1600/161.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tgdNKsviO68/UrknrYij0tI/AAAAAAAACNQ/TBHqlzzusHs/s1600/161.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GbXasXZ7tIo/Urknvd3TD0I/AAAAAAAACNg/UDo9hgHDs0A/s1600/162.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GbXasXZ7tIo/Urknvd3TD0I/AAAAAAAACNg/UDo9hgHDs0A/s1600/162.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
I really wanted something for our fireplace, since I've never had a fireplace before. I kept falling in love with these trees at craft stores made with glitter, sequins, and feathers, but I wasn't about to spend $24 for decorative cones that were large enough to make an impact above the fireplace.<br />
<br />
I made these for only $2. Yep two bucks. I got my inspiration online <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/4503668351544154/" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/4503668351549075/" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr7Vqvbo3N0" target="_blank">here</a>. I bought 2 large poster boards and a package of white crepe paper streamers from The Dollar Tree. I already had the glitter and Epsom salt.<br />
<br />
The two smaller trees are just fringed crepe paper glued on my poster-board-made-cone with glitter stuck on with some good old fashioned hairspray. The larger middle cone was covered with a mixture of glitter and Epsom salt with some Modge Podge. So simple, but I love the way they turned out. Can't beat it for the price. <br />
<br />
So that is what's on my mind this Christmas season, missing my family, starting/continuing family traditions, and crafts. I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Christmas!The Bameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05800265875087260056noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8357569040779895890.post-20070959781111123052013-12-16T20:39:00.000-07:002013-12-20T20:41:35.989-07:00Colorado StyleDo you ever feel like being in a different area gives you license to dress differently? Now that we moved to Denver I'm finding myself jones'n for clothes that I might not have typically gone for before. Not sure why, really? Maybe it's because I'm getting to experience a true fall & winter this year, or maybe it's the mountainous, green open spaces, but it makes me want to go shopping!!!! AND since Christmas is right around the corner, I think It'd be nice to give my late buying husband some present ideas!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7yyckdr2mk/UrUMuPZYhLI/AAAAAAAACLs/WTXFQ-da3Mg/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7yyckdr2mk/UrUMuPZYhLI/AAAAAAAACLs/WTXFQ-da3Mg/s1600/Slide1.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
1 Black and Brown Riding Boots found <a href="http://www.avenue.com/en_US/campbell-two-tone-riding-boot-244917057.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.dsw.com/shoe/restricted+belview+wide+calf+riding+boot?prodId=288168&category=dsw12cat1730006&activeCats=cat10006,cat20173,dsw12cat1730006" target="_blank">here</a> <br />
2 Classic Hunter Welles like <a href="http://keep.com/hunter-rain-boots-shopbop-by-kateintn/k/n1ZXU7gBDu/" target="_blank">these</a> and <a href="http://www.shopbop.com/original-hunter-wellington-boot-boots/vp/v=1/845524441801224.htm?folderID=2534374302049169&colorId=12560&extid=affprg-4441350" target="_blank">these</a>, or <a href="http://www.dsw.com/shoe/chooka+top+solid+rain+boot?prodId=258522" target="_blank">these</a> cheaper wide calf knock-offs!<br />
3 Gray Booties for everyday, like the ones found <a href="http://www.target.com/p/women-s-mad-love-leorah-bootie-grey/-/A-14551715#prodSlot=large_1_6" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://www.target.com/p/women-s-merona-molly-heel-bootie-grey/-/A-14525406#prodSlot=large_1_16" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
4. Lastly, not boots, (kill me know) I want<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/4503668350176794/" target="_blank"> these</a> Birkenstocks!<br />
<br />
I want all kinds of different boots for this fall and winter. Riding boots, willies, ankle boots. I really, really want some new boots. Unfortunately, boots are kind of expensive, so maybe I'll pick one type to get this season, another to get later in winter, and maybe hold of on one or two styles until next year. Not sure if I'll ever actually get Birkenstocks, I know my family would just make fun of me. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l7neHsjwf5w/UrUM5kCeuXI/AAAAAAAACL0/J309_kAinJE/s1600/Slide2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l7neHsjwf5w/UrUM5kCeuXI/AAAAAAAACL0/J309_kAinJE/s1600/Slide2.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
I also really want comfy, warm, clothing with a more Native American or Aztec-y type design. First, these seems really warm, and second, they just feels like they belongs in Colorado to me. Jeff thinks it's weird, like I think I'm living in New Mexico, but this style totally reminds me of Colorado. <br />
<br />
1 I've been eyes these cardigans <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/4503668351621941/" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/221028294185529908/" target="_blank">here</a>, and <a href="http://www.francescas.com/product/copperas+cove+tribal+sweater.do?sortby=ourPicks" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
2 Sweater leggings spotted <a href="http://buffdesigns.net/aztec-print-leggings-black-white/" target="_blank">here</a>, and <a href="http://whiteplumboutique.com/collections/leggings/products/x-s-and-o-s-black-and-white-leggings" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I also feel drawn to wear all my turquoise jewelry, I've always loved it, but now I am completely obsessed!! Hopefully this gives my honey some good ideas for Christmas shopping this weekend :)<br />

It helps me keep a festive home and definitive time to site down and make something.<br />
<br />
I kept Halloween decorations this year very simple, Jeff is always at work and it's not like we are having tons of family or friends over since we just moved so far, far away. BUT, I did manage to make something small, just to keep the promise to myself in tact. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9v_bMdo4ge4/UlwJx0XIZfI/AAAAAAAACKY/pslJeutYti4/s1600/phone+pic+2+225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9v_bMdo4ge4/UlwJx0XIZfI/AAAAAAAACKY/pslJeutYti4/s1600/phone+pic+2+225.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am going to have fun with fire place mantels while living here. It's a perfect little spot to give a bit of holiday cheer.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EUXIfg0dAlg/UlwKB7swcHI/AAAAAAAACKo/FpyaMw8OdF4/s1600/phone+pic+2+235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EUXIfg0dAlg/UlwKB7swcHI/AAAAAAAACKo/FpyaMw8OdF4/s1600/phone+pic+2+235.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The item I made this year was this cute "BOO" paper fan. See, I told you it was little. I just feel silly going out and buying pumpkins or expensive decorations when it'd really just be for me. I don't think Jeff even notices when I put stuff like this up, ha ha. Maybe when we have kids I'll feel comfortable turning up the volume on holiday decorations. </div>

Then I brought out some of my "fall" decorations that I'll have up until Thanksgiving. Slowly adding to the collection. I actually ended up selling or donating a good portion of my holiday decorations when we moved. Now I have an excuse to craft up some more. </div>

I'll admit that the above is barely worth blogging about, but I like to keep myself honest to my DIY resolution. Below are some links I spotted on Pinterest with some cooler DIY Halloween decorations. I'm already saving empty glass jars and cereal boxes (for the cardboard) to make us some of these.</div>

It was very hard to leave Las Vegas (<a href="http://instagram.com/p/djzCRSKTGp/" target="_blank">here</a> is an Instagram video of me saying good bye to our Condhouse.) I was delayed for a bit for family stuff, but I am here now with my Husband! AND we finally have the internet. It was the most complicated ridiculous process here to sign up for internet, but whateves. I am here, and now have my life blood, the world wide web.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see the mess I moved into <a href="http://s56.photobucket.com/user/jonesambs/media/NewMovers.mp4.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Uploading a video should have been simple in this day and age but somehow it managed to waste over an hour of my life, so hopefully the link works. I took another video a few days after we moved in to show my progress, but uploading these videos is such a pain I just re-took pictures of our place now. Not dealing with video issues anymore! (I'll have to figure it out though so I keep showing videos for my fam to see.) </div>
<br />
So mi familia, here is our new (temporary) digs . . .<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--QkiysVjmQo/UltesdVsIeI/AAAAAAAACIw/LHFSZr_rsu0/s1600/new+place.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--QkiysVjmQo/UltesdVsIeI/AAAAAAAACIw/LHFSZr_rsu0/s1600/new+place.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our living room/dinning area is smaller than our old place, half of our old furniture was just too big and gets to chill in our garage until we settle somewhere. The smaller cabinets and settee from our office now get front room billing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zl_vgOb6MGE/UltdweiW4bI/AAAAAAAACIA/7uwkV6SuwB8/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5fG4IWwnUTY/Ultd2tky8-I/AAAAAAAACII/HMaWCku63DM/s1600/Slide2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5fG4IWwnUTY/Ultd2tky8-I/AAAAAAAACII/HMaWCku63DM/s1600/Slide2.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kitchen is connected to the dinning room. Love the openness!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u-2I3zHWpWA/Ultd229RmgI/AAAAAAAACIM/yvKqOYYyeAg/s1600/Slide3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u-2I3zHWpWA/Ultd229RmgI/AAAAAAAACIM/yvKqOYYyeAg/s1600/Slide3.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Off the kitchen there is a short hallway that leads to our bedroom.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Manvk2HnpE0/Ultd3LpX6UI/AAAAAAAACIQ/srdxway9uNA/s1600/Slide4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Manvk2HnpE0/Ultd3LpX6UI/AAAAAAAACIQ/srdxway9uNA/s1600/Slide4.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The bedroom is bigger than at our Vegas home. It's nice, but I haven't yet figured out what to do with all the space. Especially what to do with all the wall space.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dsGmACT5XIc/Ultd3uOinBI/AAAAAAAACIg/37t5Nv0Uc-E/s1600/Slide5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dsGmACT5XIc/Ultd3uOinBI/AAAAAAAACIg/37t5Nv0Uc-E/s1600/Slide5.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have two bathrooms here, the master bathroom and guest bathroom. I really don't mind losing the extra toilet to clean! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-71vcGPQn3GM/Ultd32XQnbI/AAAAAAAACIk/1Bu_Kn-2dsc/s1600/Slide6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-71vcGPQn3GM/Ultd32XQnbI/AAAAAAAACIk/1Bu_Kn-2dsc/s1600/Slide6.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So there it is. We haven't yet got the guestroom/office fully set up yet. We want to get <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30080316/" target="_blank">this</a> daybed from Ikea for the space. Hopefully some family comes and visits us soon (hint, hint).</div>

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">We are packing things up, finalizing our home's sale, and making the trip out to Denver. Life is crazy right now. Too many emotions to know how to process, so . . . I think of Christmas.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Knowing that Jeff and I might be mailing or packing and flying our Christmas presents this year has really put the pressure on to find great, nicely packaged gifts. In our family we tend to give more couple/family gifts and then give smaller items to any kids. This year, the only real “kid” we have on my side is my youngest sister, and for Jeff’s we have his youngest sister and currently lone nephew. When we start to get more kids around, I’m sure the dynamic will change, but for now it’s usually just one main gift per family. In the past we’ve come up with some pretty good family gifts as a whole, but this year I’m struggling. (I might just have to think individually, oh no!)<u></u><u></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;"><u></u> </span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">So, to get my brain moving I’ve decided to make a list of all the best and brightest family gifts that we have given and received in the past. I am so tired of going to websites and seeing inscribed crystal plaques, cheese and cracker sets, and chocolate covered strawberries as gift ideas for a whole family. I think it would be better to give something that people will actually use, even if it’s not as fancy.<u></u><u></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;"><u></u> <u></u></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">There are so many options with camping gear if you have family that likes to get lost out in the woods. Sure, some of the items can be a bit pricey, but if you’re giving it to say, your sisters family as a whole, then it tends to break down to a reasonable price per person. Plus, there are also a lot of fun less expensive items out there as well. Some of our favorite items to receive and give include:<u></u><u></u></span></div>

I thought I was going to be a really good blogger this summer. I was sure I was going to record every vacation, every wedding (there are 3 sibling just this summer!), and get tons of things accomplished. But then something came up, something big, something that is taking a lot of my time.What could it be? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
WE ARE MOVING TO . . . .</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img1.etsystatic.com/001/0/6397408/il_570xN.396914569_7xqw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Denver Colorado Wedding, Neighborhood, or Housewarming Gift Print - Personalized Map Art" border="0" src="http://img1.etsystatic.com/001/0/6397408/il_570xN.396914569_7xqw.jpg" itemprop="image" width="570" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/115432547/denver-colorado-wedding-neighborhood-or?ref=sr_gallery_29&ga_search_query=colorado&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=3&ga_search_type=all" target="_blank">source</a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
COLORADO! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A suburb of Denver to be exact. We are looking in the Littleton/Centennial/Parker area. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I haven't said anything on the blog because I thought if I did I would jinks is somehow. But now I can officially say, we sold our HOUSE and I better get a movin' on finding a place to live in Colorado! I have so many mixed emotions about it. I am so nervous, terrified, excited, and everything else all at once. I have never really lived in such a big city away from my family. It is just very strange and I'm not sure when it will sink in. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jeff was offered a promotion out there for his job so we decided to be adventurous and just take it. We should be moving at the end of the month. It is seriously so crazy!!! I worry that me and my family wont be able to visit enough, I worry that I haven't started to look for a JOB yet, I'm sad about selling my most loved home, but I am happy to be with my handsome husband again. He left for Denver way back in May. It was a last minute favor to his bosses when someone else fell through to train employees at a new store his company opened up out there. Well, they liked him so much they asked him to stay, with a promotion! It has been touch and go, up and down all summer long, trying to sneak in quick visits with my sugar buns and figure out what was going on with his job. Seriously stressful, but I'm hoping it has a good reward eventually.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hear only good things about Littleton, so I am excited to explore a new city and have some serious adventures. I'm trying to take this curve ball and sit back and evaluate my own career, see if there is maybe something else out there that I want to try. Maybe, just maybe, when I am so far away from my family I will blog more, and just maybe (though very unlikely) one of my family members will read this blog one day. Haha, we will see. Off to pack more boxes and get things settled on the Nevada home front. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

having a multi-family Yard Sale this weekend. It is one of those things keeping
me <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">very busy</i> as of late. It is a lot
of work! And I probably won’t make much, but man, cleaning out this ol’ house
feels liberating. And I’m always game for having a sale (and donating the rest)
rather than trashing perfectly good items. </span><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">It’s been a couple of years since I

I'm constantly listening to something at work to make it through the day, or using it to calm, pump me up, or energize myself as needed. It is a great tool. I've been stressed lately, with lots of things to do, so these guys below have been the perfect albums to listen to, upbeat tempos but still calm and collected.<br />

They also seem to be swaying on the British side. I'm feelin' it. <br />
<br />
I have lots to blog about, lots of changes happening in the Bame house, but will have to wait a little while to blog about it. First I NEED TIME and things to get a little more settled. Enjoy the tunes :)<br />

week on my annual “sister trip.” I will have to share some pictures as
soon as one of my sisters returns my camera. (SJ, that means YOU!). My
vacationing has put off my posts last week but I wanted to share some thoughts
this week anyways. Warning: this post is kind of self-indulgent. This may be
better served as a Birthday post, but I’m not patient like that.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">In a few short weeks I will be
turning 31. Yes, 31. I still cannot believe this. As you may remember I was not
happy to be in my <a href="http://thebames.blogspot.com/2012/07/im-old.html" target="_blank">30’s</a>. Seeing my 20’s go definitely made me shed a few tears.
My 20’s were awesome, full of learning, growing, traveling the world, big
milestones (i.e.: marriage, first<i>real-career </i>jobs, purchasing house #1
and house #2). In short, I loved my 20’s. I made a <a href="http://thebames.blogspot.com/2012/05/30-x-30-its-almost-reckoning-time.html" target="_blank">30 by 30</a> list to try and
make my birthday more fun for myself. I wouldn’t say that it necessarily made
turning 30 easier, or fun, but I did get more things done at 29 then this past
year. (i.e.: the only books I read this year were The Great Gatsby again and
Engulfed in Flames, sad state of affairs compared to the 5+ I made myself find
time for last year.)</span><br />

imminent birthdays, but one thing I will say, 30 has been a really good year.
It may have only been one year, and 30 may just be a number, but I really feel
like I’ve grown a lot more comfortable in my own skin. I feel like not only do I know
myself better, but even more so, I like <i>who</i> I am. I am not as hard on
myself about my flaws and weaknesses. I understand that just like trials are a
part of life, my weaknesses are a part of me, but things get better. I’m
getting better with age. I feel like at 30 I’m finally starting to really like
who I am. I am okay with being a nerd/awkward, I like that I am <i>sweet </i>(Oh,
how that word use to make me cringe). I also feel like I know what I want more
than at any other time <span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">in my life. I know what I want and I know how to work for it; I even may on occassion just ask for what I want (<em>GASP!).</em></span></span><br />

that my life situation has changed at all. In fact my family is in more flux
then we have been for a long time, but even with all the changes going on, I am
at peace. I am more at peace with myself, my abilities, and my desires. That’s
not to say that everything is perfect and I don’t ever freak out or worry about
things, but more, that I understand I will <i>always </i>worry about things and
I don’t beat myself up over it. In retrospect, turning 30 wasn’t all that bad.
I think my 30’s are going to be fantastic, challenging, like always, but great
none the less. It does not mean that I am doomed to career and domestic boredom
as I feared. Sure, I may not be travelling to faraway lands or having a
professor blow my mind with a new way of thinking, but life is always full of
surprises and there is always room for growth.</span></span><br />

<br />
I think I am jealous of a 14 year old boy. <a href="http://www.demilked.com/surreal-self-portraits-14-year-old-fiddle-oak/" target="_blank">This</a> might help explain why.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9z1V45eX52A/UbDmfArjEZI/AAAAAAAACFg/9Z0EJMPNiJo/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="115" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9z1V45eX52A/UbDmfArjEZI/AAAAAAAACFg/9Z0EJMPNiJo/s640/Slide1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Summer is here and I am really in the mood to fill my house up with house plants. I think it's also because I want pretty planters like <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=26634048&color=027&parentid=MORE%20IDEAS" target="_blank">this</a>, <a href="http://www.pepperdesignblog.com/2013/05/09/pinterest-challenge-diy-succulent-planter-box/" target="_blank">this</a>, and <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/4503668350481690/" target="_blank">this</a>!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Jeff has been out of town on business a lot recently and I've killed our only current house plant due to lack of watering. I think if I get any house plants I may have to invest in one of <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/4503668350288798/" target="_blank">these</a>, or <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=22960355&parentid=A_DECORATE" target="_blank">this</a>.<br />
<br />
Or, maybe I should just <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/99712579219818279/" target="_blank">recycle</a>!<br />
<br />
I need to do a post about what I ended up wearing to my brother and sister-in laws weddings. Thanks to my very own younger sister getting hitched later this summer, I need to find yet another outfit! <a href="http://www.eshakti.com/Products/dresses" target="_blank">This</a> online shop was like discovering wedding dress wear GOLD I tell you. Dresses in every size, good prices, and CUSTOMIZABLE! check it out.<br />

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">As I mentioned last week my younger sister is
getting hitched. I can barely believe it, but it’s true. So us sisters are
getting together and throwing her a little bridal shower. She wants some of it
to be a surprise, but lucky for me, she never reads this blog- ha ha, so I
thought I would share the mood board I made and some ideas we had planning the
shower. ( I made the mood board to help convince my fellow party planners that
my theme was the way to go and give them an idea of how I thought we should decorate. I think it's things like this is why people don't like planning things with me.)<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">As I also mentioned last week, I am in love
with the color combo of black and white, which of course is being incorporated
into her shower.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I toyed with a bunch of
ideas and themes but in the end I settled on “Bride to Bee.” It is a classic
and a goodie. Plus, her new last name with begin with a “B,” (we will be “B”
sisters) so we thought it’s be fun to have little plays off of bees the animal,
and “B” the letter.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--XZkO2rB1uU/Ua0mbu0Sl8I/AAAAAAAACFQ/-YtFdoueii4/s1600/Sage's+Bridal+Shower+Mood+Board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--XZkO2rB1uU/Ua0mbu0Sl8I/AAAAAAAACFQ/-YtFdoueii4/s640/Sage's+Bridal+Shower+Mood+Board.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">The colors are going to play off of her wedding
colors, but instead of pale pastels we decided to have the same colors but in
bright and vibrant tones, mainly a happy yellow, bright green, and of course,
black and white. We decided to try and keep things simple by mainly decorating
the food table and favor table. The rag bunting will be swagged on the food
table and we’ll make a paper lantern and tissue honeycomb cluster for over the
table. All the tables (food, eating, favor tables) will be covered in white
table clothes with vases or mason jars filled flowers in our yellow and green
colors. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;"><o:p> </o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">We plan to bring in the Bee/“B” theme by serving
food and giving away things that relate to honey, decorated letter “b”s on
tables and doors, with the favors, and more. I will give a whole break down
after the shin dig.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> I don't want to give away too much in the off chance that my sister may actually read this blog. I'm excited I think it will be super cute!</span></span><br />

(Please visit <a href="http://www.lds.org/?lang=eng" target="_blank">here</a> to learn more about my faith.) I started out as the secretary but am now serving as the First Counselor over the female youth group. I thought it would be fun to post some of our more successful mutual nights or cute activity ideas.<br />
<br />
One of our leaders thought up this activity based on an activity that she remembered doing when she was younger. We called it a "SPA" Night. The leaders brought a bunch of beauty products from home, like nail polish, bath/foot soaking fizzies, and face masks. We induldged in a little pampering with the girls, painted each others nails and relaxed. Then, near the end of the activity we gave each girl a SPA Journal, which stands for Scriptures, Prayers, and Answers. We encourage the Young Women to keep a journal seperate from their everyday journal, using this one specifically for inspirational and favorite scriptures, insights and revelation from reading their scriptures, daily prayers and the answers they receive.<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xTI-tdCONbc/UaUK8Vbn9HI/AAAAAAAACEw/Czi7d5daerE/s1600/Spa+Night.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xTI-tdCONbc/UaUK8Vbn9HI/AAAAAAAACEw/Czi7d5daerE/s320/Spa+Night.jpg" width="320" /></a> <br />
We did this activity the week before General Conference and further encouraged them to watch General Conference after saying a prayer and to look for specific answers to questions they might have. We asked them to record thier experience in their SPA Journals. The activity would work for any time of year, but I think it works well before General Conference or Girls Camp, a time when they can start practing writing in their SPA journals right away. <br />
<br />
I made some cute little handouts for the girls to take home as well. I got the small baskets and loufas from the dollar store and filled them with some homemade bath salts that I already had on hand. Handouts for <em>all</em> the girls only costs me $3, and it shouldn't be too much more if you need to buy supplies to make homemade bath salts. Heck, you can even buy bath salts at some dollar stores or in bulk at WalMart. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AfZskMLhb_A/UaZZr7FywfI/AAAAAAAACFA/m0uXETFJNl0/s1600/SPA+night.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AfZskMLhb_A/UaZZr7FywfI/AAAAAAAACFA/m0uXETFJNl0/s400/SPA+night.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Overall it was a successful night. It was pretty laid back and easy but had a good spiritual punch to it as well. Here are some links to others who did similar activities with thier own spin for some more ideas, or of course, look it up on Pinterst for tons of ideas.<br />

Seriously, I'm helping plan my younger sisters bridal shower and I just want to make EVERYTHING black and white. My sisters/ co-party throwers have to remind me, "Where's the color Amber?" <br />
<br />
Oh, let's pause for a moment. Did you catch that little tid-bit in that last paragraph? Yes, My sister is getting married!!! My LITTLE sister!!! I think it is insane, I still think of her in diapers, but alas, she is an adult now and that girl is getting hitched! She was scheduled for an LDS mission last time I posted about her, but some handsome lad just swept her right off her feet and changed her plans. So excited for her happiness!<br />
<br />
Any who, my desire for everything black and white made me stop and think for a little bit. Why am I (and lots of designers out there) loving black and white so much lately if it's really always been kickin' around? I decided to analyze myself and think about what makes black and white work and what does not? This is what I came up with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D8_v3GHj_90/UaUAH1gBP6I/AAAAAAAACEA/zAYu8jwpY5E/s1600/Slide1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D8_v3GHj_90/UaUAH1gBP6I/AAAAAAAACEA/zAYu8jwpY5E/s640/Slide1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
First up, and probably the biggest part of the most recent trend I'm loving, is having crisp geometric patterns. I think this is the quickest way to make black and white feel updated and clean. It just makes my eyes happy. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XL-6GDvLOKk/UaUAJu5S14I/AAAAAAAACEI/mP3ByWQPyfo/s1600/Slide2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XL-6GDvLOKk/UaUAJu5S14I/AAAAAAAACEI/mP3ByWQPyfo/s640/Slide2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next, the BOLD factor. A small black and white strip just doesn't do it for me the same way that a big and bold black and white strip does, you know. The bolder the better! Something that really grabs your eye and calls out for attention.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ndr6wQQaQ38/UaUALca_SQI/AAAAAAAACEQ/CpTdwlg4qnw/s1600/Slide3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ndr6wQQaQ38/UaUALca_SQI/AAAAAAAACEQ/CpTdwlg4qnw/s640/Slide3.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
And finally, I also am really loving those classic pieces that are some how being updated by our tried and true black and white combo. It feels like home and comfortable, but also new and fresh at the same time. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fDvsqKvPaH8/UaUAMg_dIyI/AAAAAAAACEY/dAo2dcUKFso/s1600/Slide4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fDvsqKvPaH8/UaUAMg_dIyI/AAAAAAAACEY/dAo2dcUKFso/s640/Slide4.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, as much as I love black and white trending right now, I have also seen it done badly. The most sure ways to suck the life out this duo is making it too fussy and fru-fru. If there is detailed or intricate patter, or honestly, just something very girlie, it doesn't do it for me in black and white. I like the masculine side to this color combo. <br />
<br />
I also don't think that black and white has the magical powers it takes to revive dated patterns and shapes. Taking a 1990's floral pattern or furniture shape and pairing it up with our contrasting friends just doesn't quiet cut it. Somehow I think it just makes it more obviously dated.<br />
<br />
Finally, if something looks really cheap it's not going to float in black and white. That will just conjure up images of the Las Vegas strip and yard long alcoholic beverages to me. Maybe that is because I live in Las Vegas, I'm not sure. But if something already look cheap from the start, then black and white again isn't going to save it. It may even make it look worse.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nBafgGAcCWo/UaUANU1ZkUI/AAAAAAAACEg/ydZSOjMARQE/s1600/Slide5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nBafgGAcCWo/UaUANU1ZkUI/AAAAAAAACEg/ydZSOjMARQE/s640/Slide5.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So that is my .02. I am trying desperately not to just buy everything black and white these days while still looking for ways to bring those crisp, clean, and bold ideals into my life. I will have to share pictures of my sisters shower and all it's black and white goodness this summer! There is some yellow and green in there as well for the shower, so I think it will look amazing. <br />

There seems to be a lot of rules about blogging these days, how many times you need to post, how many tweets or instagrams you should post a day, how to create "your brand," and lots of classes on how it should be done. I don't think that this is that type of a blog, blogging is not my day job. I blog to try and keep myself motivated to do my odds and ends around the house. I blog so I have somewhere to talk/write about design, crafting, my day, work, or whatever (this also helps keep my DH from having to listen to hours of me talking about paint colors). I blog because I'm MUCH better about blogging than keeping a journal (although, I could still be much more of a consistent blogger). I blog for a creative outlet.</div>
<br />
Blog-o-sphere complaining aside, I like blogging and think it's a fun hobby. I hope this blog helps give others ideas, or is a happy stop in someones day. I hope it is a good creative outlet and helps bring more beautiful things into my life, and maybe even a few others if I can help it. Recently, I don't feel like my blog is working for me. I mean, I've been at this for years, and I have tried to re-design, streamline my topics, or create a "brand," but it just isn't my jam. I think I just want to blog about whatever is going on in my life, not just design or home improvement. For example, I also am very involved in my church, I also happen to work a couple of jobs and have gained nifty skills, I'm obsessed about my dog. Things the world <em>must</em> need to know, right? <br />
<br />
Okay, maybe not. But I've decided to try and give my blog yet another little renovation. Make it look better, be more organized, and just in general work better for me (and in turn, hopefully for others as well.) I read blogs a lot, and it's always fun to go to their site and BAM! Everything is different and pretty and organized. Well, like I said, I'm not that kind of a blog. And in the wise words of Sugar Brown "Ain't nobody got time for that!" So instead, I think I will take you along in my journey of a BLOG RENO. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IxX6-L6uXe4/UZwOCkF57dI/AAAAAAAACDw/zGAyF79HGOc/s1600/Crane.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IxX6-L6uXe4/UZwOCkF57dI/AAAAAAAACDw/zGAyF79HGOc/s640/Crane.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't plan on doing anything too crazy, just streamlining it all really. I also plan on writing more about what is on my mind or inspiring me at the moment and not worrying about weather it fits within a "brand." I basically will just try and make the blog work better for me and for others. I have so many projects around my house right now it's not even funny. I need to get re-energized and blogging really helps me do that, keeps me more organized as well.<br />
<br />
Here is my beginning "to do" list:<br />
<br />
Streamline Labels<br />
Add "buttons" for social media and stuff<br />
Add an Instagram Roll<br />
I like links to blogs I like and topics instead of them cluttering up the side bar<br />
Make "Search" field in side bar<br />
remove the blogspot header<br />
Make it look sleek and cleaner overall<br />
Use my <em>real</em> camera for pics and rely less on my phone camera<br />
<br />
Now, knowing me, it might take me a year to get this done. It's real life over here, but my goal is to try and do something blog-clean-up related at least once and month and share my <strike>wisdom</strike> struggles. I just put it all out there so I hope I will follow through. After all, that is why I'm blogging in the first place. Wish me luck!The Bameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05800265875087260056noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8357569040779895890.post-43963062600193456152013-03-25T13:56:00.000-06:002013-03-25T13:56:37.619-06:00What to Wear to a WeddingOur family has been blessed to have two weddings coming up in the family this Spring. Lucky us! In our family even if we aren't bridesmaids or part of the official wedding party, the family always tries to dress in the wedding colors so that we look cohesive for the family photos.<br />
<br />
My sister-in-laws wedding's colors are navy blue and gray (like a dark, gun metal color). My brother-in-laws wedding's colors are teal, royal blue, and purple. You know what this means? I think I might want to go shopping. And I never want to go shopping. But just because it's a good excuse, and you can never have too many cute dresses, and it's pretty and Spring, it's all making me want to bust out my wallet and buy something. Here's what I've been eyeing so far (least expensive to more expensive).<br />

This dress actually comes in this blue and teal. I think I could make the blue work for both weddings maybe? Do you think it is in between enough to work for navy and royal blue? I think I could dress them up a bit with a cardigan, tights, and jewelry. Our weddings aren't usually super formal anyways.</div>

I love the leather ties on the side, but don't like that if I wanted to wear a cardigan (as I do almost every day) that I would cover up the cutest part of the dress.</div>

. . .and then I went crazy for <a href="http://us.asos.com/Shop-womens-clothes-dresses-shoes-coats-bags-more-at-ASOS/yojtm/?xr=2&r=1&mk=na" target="_blank">ASOS</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IacxiVJjkDA/UVCoKyfhlfI/AAAAAAAACCU/yipTT2TUfjY/s1600/dresses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IacxiVJjkDA/UVCoKyfhlfI/AAAAAAAACCU/yipTT2TUfjY/s640/dresses.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sadly, I don't think they have my size in a few of them (top middle, teal, and bottom right), but I would gladly take any of these dresses. I am VERY sad that they do not have the teal dress in the bottom middle. It is so <em>very very</em> pretty! I have never ordered from ASOS but always hear good things. Maybe I will be brave and test them out.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I think the floral navy dress could work for both weddings as well, but is it weird to wear the same dress for both? My siblings are on the same side of the family, so it's likely to be the same crowd for both weddings. It makes me think I need two different dresses.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I seriously only shop when I am just trying to spend time with friends or family and they want to go shopping. It is not something I do in my spare time, and I've been away from it for so long I feel kind of lost. Where else is a good place to go dress shopping?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

The Bameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05800265875087260056noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8357569040779895890.post-57805142801922312022013-02-04T20:00:00.000-07:002013-02-04T23:04:31.505-07:00The "Little" ThingsI have been somewhat stressed lately. I've been working a second job since November to help save and better prepare us for whatever might be down the road for us in our pursuit of parenthood (as I discussed a little bit <a href="http://thebames.blogspot.com/2013/01/mo-babies-mo-problems-what-bugs-me.html" target="_blank">here</a>.) Working two jobs is a big stress on my time and leaves me feeling pretty drained some days. I don't know how people work 80 hour weeks? 60 to 70 hours has me pooped! My crafting, decorating, and couch surfing time has been GREATLY reduced!<br />
<br />
I have also had to swallow my pride a bit, which is silly, because I know that what I'm doing is honorable, and it's a good thing for me to take control of whatever part of our situation I can. But when someone from high school walks into the cafe your working at with your fellow teenage co-workers, sometimes I can't help but blush. Then I just get mad at myself for being embarrassed over having to take a second job to save up some baby money and put us in a better position. It's obviously totally worth it and I shouldn't worry about such stupid things, right? Now, if only I could the blood in my check to behave accordingly.<br />
<br />
Anyways! This is not a woe is me post, contrary to the above. Even though I may be stressed lately, it has just brought my attention to being so happy and grateful for the small (and maybe not so small) things of life. I am seriously so freakin' blessed I can barely stand it. Here is what is making me smile lately.<br />
<br />
My youngest sister turned 15! I can't believe our baby is so grown up! She wanted to go cosmic bowling and I was more than happy to oblige. It was a super fun girls night.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sj2BuSp5-XQ/UQGU0RbIVOI/AAAAAAAAB-0/qm8AA30B8f4/s1600/jades+15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sj2BuSp5-XQ/UQGU0RbIVOI/AAAAAAAAB-0/qm8AA30B8f4/s400/jades+15.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
My husband is the most hilariously sweet person I know. I came home the other night to find flowers and this note on the kitchen counter. Read the note, it had me cracking up for a good five minutes. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mVYSHsScnzo/UQGUymgzmKI/AAAAAAAAB-k/T3hn3Fq8rPQ/s1600/0%5B1%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mVYSHsScnzo/UQGUymgzmKI/AAAAAAAAB-k/T3hn3Fq8rPQ/s400/0%5B1%5D.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The 49ers are going to the Superbowl, okay this one isn't really for me, but for my main man. He was very excited, which in turn let me witness this hilariousness (Too bad they lost last night, the seen at this house was pretty different last night from this video.)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe frameborder="0" height="320" src="http://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=10151358324998485" width="568"></iframe><br /></div>
<br />
I got to have an amazing Saturday OFF with my mom and little sister where we partook in manicures, lunch, and shopping. It was the best day I've had in a long time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dicpttTor0g/UQGUzgkU43I/AAAAAAAAB-s/nfa0J9zBOWw/s1600/0%5B2%5D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dicpttTor0g/UQGUzgkU43I/AAAAAAAAB-s/nfa0J9zBOWw/s400/0%5B2%5D.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The Killers concert. Enough said.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fh0wolX6BxY/UQGUv4QozbI/AAAAAAAAB-c/-PYeFZT5FN8/s1600/0%5B1%5D+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="356" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fh0wolX6BxY/UQGUv4QozbI/AAAAAAAAB-c/-PYeFZT5FN8/s640/0%5B1%5D+(2).jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I finally dusted off the bike for a good MLK bike ride out to the dam.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KXcSp1mYIoE/URCd4yJGwrI/AAAAAAAACAI/5fO2c8DMNNQ/s1600/IMG_20130204_214442.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KXcSp1mYIoE/URCd4yJGwrI/AAAAAAAACAI/5fO2c8DMNNQ/s400/IMG_20130204_214442.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Lastly, and biggest of all- my little sister has been called on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! I could not be more proud and excited for her. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dx2CC_33My-5qPGyHruV5vTp7JFx3_yf0j6F2SI0tinIIhIR2T6aMYyPB3NNZRTCUky9wnM3ONauQiYFzT9Kg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
See, can you believe I had so many happy events in just over a month? Like I said, totally blessed and thankful!!</div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Okay, I try not to put
my truly personal business out on the web, but I just want to take a moment and
have a little rant about our health care system. I am so fed up and sick of it!
Please indulge me and allow me a moment for a temper tantrum. As some may know, my lovin’ husband and I
have been struggling to have a child these last 5 years.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I don’t like to talk about it really, because
it is deeply personal and probably the biggest struggle and heart break I’ve
had in my life so far, so I’m not really going to get into that here. I’m just
putting it out there to explain why we get to deal with the lovely medical
system. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The first time I wrote
this post I gave a brief synopsis of the path that we’ve been on, but even
though it was vague and tasteful (and very therapeutic for me to write!), I am
not going to share it here. Instead of those dets, I’ve created my top 5 pet
peeves we’ve experienced with the medical system so far:<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">

Hasn’t
study after study shown that all doctors need to do is allow their patient to
talk for about 2 minutes, to not only allow the patient to feel heard, but also
to allow for a more proper and concise diagnosis? With the 3 doctors I’ve seen
I don’t think I’ve been able to get out 3 sentences together. A couple minutes
out of their day for each patient isn’t going to put them out of business, I
think it would only give them more.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">

away with not covering such a common and serious medical issue as infertility?
If preventing/terminating a pregnancy is a suitable medical need that is
covered, how can the reverse not be suitable as well? I’m not trying to say that
women shouldn’t be allowed birth control or anything, just that if medication
to prevent pregnancy is insurable, then medication to promote pregnancy should
be as well. Also, our insurance coverage has significantly deteriorated in the
last 5 years, even though I’ve kept good jobs that were supposed to have
amazing benefits. I basically feel like I don’t even have insurance with my
high deductible plan, everything seems to be coming out of MY pocket.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">

Not only are doctors inflating their pay by requiring un-needed
test, but some doctors are requiring you get ALL tests done from them. It
doesn’t matter if the tests were already ran by another office, it doesn’t
matter if you really only need to be tested in one or two areas- it seems like
they are requiring ALL OR NOTHING. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">4-<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span></span></span>It may be all about mullah, but nobody seems
to want to talk about it! Letting you know the amount of money you will be paying
for these tests and services is not a concern or priority for most doctors. Maybe
they don’t like to discuss it because the cost would have you running scared
($3,000 out of pocket for an introductory blood test? Yeah, that happened. How could that not
instill fear in the hearts of patients?), but I still think it needs to be
given its own weight and conversation. I would not hire a contractor or
purchase a sofa without first knowing the costs. Why then would I participate
in some of the most vital and personal services of my life without first
knowing the costs?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">5-<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span></span></span>Control. I feel like all power or control is
taken away from the patients. I have absolutely no say in what or how I want to
move forward with possible medical problems. They have all the cards and know
the game, while I have no cards to play and have no instructions for the game.
I am completely at their mercy. Not that I would want to tell a physician how
to do their job or anything. I wouldn’t want anyone telling me how to do my job, but I feel
like there is no balance. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Everything is
on their terms.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Okay. So that is my rant. Pretty sad isn’t it. I know I am whiny, but
I can’t help being frustrated with the whole thing. And because I can’t imagine
living this life and not getting the chance to be a mother, I really have no choice
but to deal with it. Put on my big girl pants and move forward. It sucks . . .
so is life. But life has taught me that those things which are really worth
having, and have the biggest reward, are not usually easily obtained. Being a
parent takes crazy sacrifice, We have just started to sacrifice our sanity a
little bit earlier than usual for our kids. Onward with doctors, onward with
adoption research, onward with foster care research. It will come in its own
time, I know, it is just hard.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

Like last year, when I had too many dietary restrictions in the office, I crafted up these cute little </span><a href="http://thebames.blogspot.com/2012/05/gifts-that-dont-suc-culent.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">succulents</span></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> gifts (and made some zucchini bread for those who ate bread).</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y4QL7GNEoto/UNIoQnviXuI/AAAAAAAAB7o/jRyG_ZwGOl0/s1600/4503668347773881_c3Kl5fT0_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y4QL7GNEoto/UNIoQnviXuI/AAAAAAAAB7o/jRyG_ZwGOl0/s400/4503668347773881_c3Kl5fT0_c.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The year before I spent hours and hours making these </span><a href="http://thebames.blogspot.com/2011/12/small-frys-gift-guide.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">mini apple pies</span></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> in small mason jars. These were so adorable (but time taking)!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E4ogBlMKJFo/UNIqHvQDXFI/AAAAAAAAB88/DSia1-gABd0/s1600/PIE2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E4ogBlMKJFo/UNIqHvQDXFI/AAAAAAAAB88/DSia1-gABd0/s400/PIE2.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">(You can certainly tell when I use my camera phone and when I use my real camera can't you? I really should bust out my real camera more often!)</span></div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This year, however, I was really feeling the pressure because I didn't really have the time to spend on something that would require a lot of effort or time. This is when my Mom came to the rescue. Of course. Every year for Christmas she makes us Cereal Candy (basically one of those Chex mix recipes) to munch on during Christmas day. Everyone LOVES it, and it usually doesn't last the day it's eaten up so quickly. So, she gave me the recipe and let the secret out of the bag, this stuff is easy and quick to make. Even <em>I</em> could do it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, I rushed out to the grocery store to pick up the ingredients and some cute containers, rushed home, put it together, made the packaging cute-ish, and was done with EVERYTHING in about an hour. And this stuff makes A LOT, so I was able to cross off tons of people in one fell swoop! Have to love that. Thank.You.Mom!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4XMyXdrWhns/UNIqfmEcvvI/AAAAAAAAB9E/kwZe_MPsbGA/s1600/PhotoGrid2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4XMyXdrWhns/UNIqfmEcvvI/AAAAAAAAB9E/kwZe_MPsbGA/s400/PhotoGrid2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I bought a couple of classic red tins and the Dollar Tree and adorned them with some green ribbon and left over gift tags from a few years ago for the people I work with. For visiting teaching and home teaching people I bought a few of those 4 packs of tupperware from the Dollar Tree. Then I just used the circle label that came with them to cut out cute festive tops from scraps of last years wrapping paper, put the paper in place with a couple of glue dots, tied a ribbon and tag on, and it was done.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sure, it's not the cutest or most creative idea out there, but this definitely worked for me this year when I was in a pinch. Besides, I would be totally stoked to get a nice red tin full of Cereal Candy goodness! Sometimes I think I get carried away and believe whatever I give out has to be ubber creative or painstakingly made with sweat and tears. It was very refreshing this year to have my Christmas crafting/baking completed so easily!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue" Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is the recipe from my mom with a few extra instructions from me if anyone else is in a pinch and wants to give it a go, or just wants to melt into a delicious holiday snack.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Cereal Candy</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mix in a large bowl: (I used 2 bowls and split the mix, so easier to cover with sweet stuff)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 large box Golden Graham Cereal</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 large box Corn Chex Cereal</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 package Coconut (reg. size)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1 16oz. jar Salted Dry Roasted Peanuts (or any other kind of nuts you like)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Boil for 3 minutes:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">(I pre-melted the butter a bit before I put it in the pot to make things go faster. Once everything comes to a boil set a clock and boil it for 3 minutes exactly.)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3 cubes real Butter</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 cups Sugar</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 cups (16oz. jar) Karo Syrup</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Pour over cereal mix until fully coated. Put in container and cover. Enjoy your free time.</span></div>
The Bameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05800265875087260056noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8357569040779895890.post-37269677762268072702012-12-12T13:00:00.002-07:002012-12-12T13:02:55.299-07:00Decorating by Memory- Part 3<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I finally got around to making a mood board that I think
combines my families style, more specifically my grandparents style, and
modernizing it into something that I could bring into my own home. I started
this adventure <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">here</i>. My idea was to
decorate my home using my own family and experiences as inspiration instead of
the typical inspiration sources.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I hoped
it would help me make my home be really about me and my family and not copied
from some book or website.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So let’s look back and see what mood boards I came up with.
The first was inspired by my father’s side of the family . . .</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eW4BDAFQ9GI/UMjhzLDHqdI/AAAAAAAAB6Q/KwOrmhLWDwI/s1600/Grandparents+Style1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eW4BDAFQ9GI/UMjhzLDHqdI/AAAAAAAAB6Q/KwOrmhLWDwI/s640/Grandparents+Style1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They are kind of traditional and classic. Lots of gold/brass, mirrors, and wallpaper with hints of natural elements sprinkled in there. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The other moodboard was inspired by my mother’s side of the family . . .</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SO3bqiQL-eg/UK0_bgfCyaI/AAAAAAAABzI/hOPtZA32uhA/s1600/Grandparents+Style2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SO3bqiQL-eg/UK0_bgfCyaI/AAAAAAAABzI/hOPtZA32uhA/s640/Grandparents+Style2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They are a bit more rustic. Lots of leather, classic farm pieces, wood, and femine touches from my grandmother.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I thought about these boards, my grandparents, my happy
childhood memories, and then went to work trying to combine these pretty
different styles into one that I would want to bring into my own home. This is
what I came up with . . .</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o8V-GBK5voA/UK0_c1vWXLI/AAAAAAAABzQ/aNrLctWw0lg/s1600/Grandparents+Style+Combined.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-o8V-GBK5voA/UK0_c1vWXLI/AAAAAAAABzQ/aNrLctWw0lg/s640/Grandparents+Style+Combined.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It surprised me how rustic it ended up turning out, but
there are just so many great rustic pieces out there right now. Now, I don’t
think I can actually afford many of these pieces (of course) but this is an
inspiration board after all, so it is just something to aspire to.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is the breakdown of what I was thinking-</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<a href="http://www.sasinteriors.net/2012/05/creative-vision-wednesday/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Wallpaper</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: I like the idea of using wallpaper or a painting
treatment to mimic wallpaper, since my grandmother uses wallpaper often
throughout her house. But instead of mauve florals, I like the idea of using an
earthier grass cloth. I have seriously always been in love with the stuff (it
also reminds me of going to church, every LDS building in the west seems to
have textured wallpaper). I am not sure if Jeff would ever allow it, or if we
have the right space for it in this house, but one day I WILL get to use it!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<a href="http://www.20x200.com/artworks/1273-trey-speegle-can-you-imagine" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Painting</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: I really want to collect paintings and art like
mine and Jeff’s grandparents did. I feel like original art from an artist is
maybe less available than it was for them, but thanks to Etsy and popular
website like 20 x 200, great copies of art are more available than ever. I have
always loved this print from 20 X 200. I could “imagine” the art piece without
the typography in any of my family members’ homes, but the typography makes it
more modern and suitable to our homes style. Jeff and I are already slowly
starting our own art collection and I am excited to see it grow.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<a href="http://www.theclassycottage.com/caviarclusterpolishednickelclearglass.aspx" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Light Fixture</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: I LOVE this light. It totally reminds me of
the father’s mother! She loves glass and brass, it is all over her house, and
the round globes kind of give the light a mid-century modern feeling to me,
which also reminds me of her. I think if she were to redecorate a room right
now she would totally want this light!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<a href="http://www.hautelook.com/events#all" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Mirror</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: This mirror was a good combination of both sides I
thought. It’s a mirror, for my father’s side, but the rope and iron frame
totally makes it work for my mother’s side. I would hang this up in my house in
a second.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/home-furniture/24808628.jsp" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Chair</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: This chair was another great combination of my two
worlds. The leather is totally up my cowboy lovin’ families alley, but the
classically modern shape, kind of mid-century again, makes this chair reminiscent
of the modern classic pieces the other side of my family uses. It’s a wonderful
fit for my place, I love mid-century modern, have you seen my couch? Now only
if I had a few grand to purchase two of them.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<a href="https://www.jossandmain.com/Look-Linger-Love-Driftwood-Coffee-Table~CURT1022~E2455.html?referrerid=IJB" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Side Table</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: This is me and my grandmother through and
through. Every table in her house has a glass top and brass legs. It is just
her. But again, the unique and modern shape would make it totally workable for
a young family like mine.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<a href="http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=3417#" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ottoman</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">: There is just something I have always loved about
ottomans. The idea of having one covered in a cowhide just blows my mind though.
It is awesome sauce! (I know the thought of real animal hide at home may turn
the stomach of many people out there, I get that, but having one or two hides around
has just always been the way it was for me. However, having a stuffed and
preserved deer head in my home would totally gross me out, so I get it. )<o:p></o:p></span></div>

parents. They were all given a little bit of a fresh twist from how they
display similar items in their homes but I think they work. I must say they all
live quiet well together. My grandmother already gave me the brass giraffes who live in our guest room - I love them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So that is that. I have enjoyed this experimental
examination of my families style and how I could bring their touch into a more
modern and family friendly space that I could create in my own home. Even if I
can’t really afford many of these exact pieces, it gives me a great point of
view to follow when I am shopping, rummaging in an old antique furniture store,
or at my local thrift store. It defiantly feels homey and cozy to me. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">(PS if you are worried that I’m not including my hubster in
this style inspiration, I did try. I asked him about what he could remember
from his grandparents’ places and what style of theirs he liked. I got a huge
blank, yet confused, look from him. But I think his grandparent’s style was
somewhat similar to my grandparents. One side was farmers/cowboys, another
grandparent was also a math teacher, and in visits with his grandmother, I can
see that they also appreciate original art. His great grandmother and great grandmother
used to be quite the artist themselves.) Sorry if I forgot to link any image sources, I linked as many as I could remember.</span>The Bameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05800265875087260056noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8357569040779895890.post-48100417305610139382012-12-06T13:21:00.001-07:002012-12-06T13:31:30.763-07:00Pinterest Pickings- Christmas<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
I don't know if I'll have time to make any holiday decorations this year for Christmas, but that hasn't stopped me from pinning away at things on Pinterest. Here are my favorite pins for Christmas this year.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/253116441526559126_AJqYJP6g_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Pinned Image" border="0" height="400" id="pinCloseupImage" src="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/253116441526559126_AJqYJP6g_c.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I am hoping to make one of these for myself along my with Young Women for a mutual night. They are all over Pinterest right now, but I really like this one and it's muted hues. You can find it <a href="http://kimboscrafts.blogspot.com/2010/12/nativity.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/263601384409150949_R2ax3dNj_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Pinned Image" border="0" height="400" id="pinCloseupImage" src="http://media-cache-ec3.pinterest.com/upload/263601384409150949_R2ax3dNj_c.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I already kind of copied this guy, except instead of the berry's (which I love but do not have the time right now) I used my moss covered "B" that I made <a href="http://thebames.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-easter-b.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I cut a strip from some burlap fabric that I had on hand, tied a bow, stuck some holly in it, and presto - Christmas decor for the door. You can find the above pictured wreath <a href="http://wwwourunexpectedjourney.blogspot.com/2011/11/let-decorating-begin.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="Pinned Image" id="pinCloseupImage" src="http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/upload/72268768991147549_gCzPVCBa_c.jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This seems like a pretty easy DIY, glue and Epsom salt is all it takes for a snowy ornament. I think I would add some white glitter in the mix, but that is just because I am a glitter loving fool. You can find it <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/4503668349300799/" target="_blank">here</a>. (Blog is no longer active, sorry)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="Pinned Image" height="400" id="pinCloseupImage" src="http://media-cache-ec2.pinterest.com/upload/4503668349295072_1kbJHzPS_c.jpg" width="309" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a book that you can buy for $10, not a freebie, but it is chock full of inexpensive DIY gift ideas. I think this book could be dangerous! You can learn more about it <a href="http://thecraftpack.bigcartel.com/" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly, of course there are a bunch of free printable gift tags and printables out there again this year, but I have limited myself to my favorite two that I've seen. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Found <a href="http://www.eatdrinkchic.com/post.cfm/free-holiday-knit-gift-tags" target="_blank">here</a>, &</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

found <a href="http://blog.hwtm.com/2011/11/mod-merry-bright-holiday-party-new-hwtm-theme-free-printables/" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think I am going to use that last printable set for my Christmas Eve Eve party that I am hosting again this year (because what is Christmas without THREE straight days of hanging out with family?). That <em>could be</em> considered crafting or getting something festive for Christmas, right? Maybe I will count it this year. Happy pinning!</div>

This year I have been trying to
make/create/buy at least one decorative item for each holiday. I crafted up
some small decoration for Halloween and Thanksgiving this year but forgot to
post them - you know to prove to myself that I actually am following through
with my promise to myself.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">First up, Halloween. I knew I wanted to do something similar
to <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/4503668346906001/" target="_blank">this</a></i></b>
post that I saw on Pinterest, but without the $10 craft pumpkin price (our dollar tree doesn't have cool pumpkins, so the $10 Michaels pumpkins was all I could find). So I
came up with this idea …</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VXCEIk3U7co/UK09nMGOL5I/AAAAAAAAByw/6N6LKxCdtnc/s1600/Wreath+How+To.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="634" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VXCEIk3U7co/UK09nMGOL5I/AAAAAAAAByw/6N6LKxCdtnc/s640/Wreath+How+To.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">1)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Hit up Targets dollar section for two ugly
glittery pumpkins for a few bucks. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">2)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Get a “scary” book from the thrift store for
fifty cents.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">3)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Cut out a few scary sounding pages and modge
podge them to the pumpkins (not pictured, my hands were covered with glue). Use
some already on hand hemp to coil around the pumpkins stump.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.5in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">4)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Put some dollar store moss where the stem meets the pumpkin to hide any imperfections and let dry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NdEbiORryl0/ULklvL8Ba_I/AAAAAAAAB3Y/Lsb36pjEOB0/s1600/paper+edited.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NdEbiORryl0/ULklvL8Ba_I/AAAAAAAAB3Y/Lsb36pjEOB0/s640/paper+edited.jpg" width="554" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Easy peasy. Some cute pumpkins to spruce up my kitchen.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.25in;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Next, Thanksgiving. When I was at
Target purchasing my gaudy pumpkins I also purchased a wreath and pumpkin made
from some wig-like material.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--vaRJBgau_w/UK09n1H0VlI/AAAAAAAABy4/EJSsOBGtvGk/s1600/Wreath+How+To2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--vaRJBgau_w/UK09n1H0VlI/AAAAAAAABy4/EJSsOBGtvGk/s640/Wreath+How+To2.jpg" width="638" /></a></div>
So, I needed to decorate my wreath. I decided paper flowers and a festive banner would do the trick.<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">1)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Use the same thrift store book from above and
make paper flowers.</span></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">2)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Draw swirl on page and cut out on the lines to start your flower.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">3)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Starting at the outside edge, roll up the paper to make the flower and hot
glue it in place (see Pinterest or any number of tutorials for how to make paper
flowers.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">4)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Glue and pin paper flowers onto wreath. Make
sure the pins do not poke through the wreath all the way. If they do, cut or
bench the pokey ends that are coming all the way through with some wire cutters.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -0.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">5)</span><span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Make banner with felt and sticker letters
(purchased at Michaels). To make flags find a perfect square you may have around the house and trace it onto
felt. Cut out felt squares. Fold over hemp string creating a triangle flag. Hot
glue the inside of flag to one another so that it stays in place.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt 0.5in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -0.25in;">

</span></span></span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Glue or place on sticker letters to create your
desired phrase. Glue banner to wreath on the back side of the wreath with any
desired swag.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Along with a few small purchases
at my local thrift store (purchased on discount days) I was able to have a few
seasonal decoration sprinkled throughout the house. I think in all I ended up
spending $13 for everything I made or bought this year. Everything else I had on
hand. It’s amazing how even small touches help bring in the holiday spirit.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So that is it. See Amber, I did it. Glad you posted it now that you're decorating for Christmas!</div>

Hope you all had a marvelous Halloween and Thanksgiving!</div>

overdue. My Jeffery had his 30<span style="font-size: x-small;">th</span> birthday this past October. I can’t
believe we are getting so old. I still feel like we're 24 and just got married, but alas, time has caught up to us and we turned 30 this year!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I really wanted to go on vacation for his birthday and do
something BIG for him, but the recent purchase of a new car squashed any travel
plans (RIP my beloved Tacoma, hello new Ford truck). Instead of vacationing, I planned a party - of course! This kid
gets parties like every year I swear. We had a Mystery Science Theater 30K
party theme going on this year. I tried my best not to make it childish, but was only
somewhat succeeded. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">We started the night by opening his presents. Thanks to my
amazing sister, I actually have good birthday pictures of him this year. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><o:p></o:p></span> <span style="font-family: Calibri;">The decorations were kind of science-themed. At the party we
set up a handful of dinner tables in my mother-in laws back yard and with his
new birthday present - a movie/tv/gaming projector- we watched Mystery Science Theater episodes while we ate and
chatted. Jeff’s brother made his famously delicious hamburgers and the rest of
us pot lucked goodies for everyone to enjoy.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I made sure there was a bunch of festive streamers,
mysterious glowing orbs in the pool (balloons with glow sticks in them), and
movie-theater-themed treats for table center pieces. Mine, and I also the
party guests, favorite part was the drink table though. I put science-like
labels on two liter soda bottles and had a bunch of crazy wierd straws and cups to
drink with. As the guests parting gift they got to take their cup home with
them (Jeff’s idea). It seemed like a big hit. All the cups were different and
in some weird way - hilarious. (I scoured local thrift stores for them and washed
them up before the party.)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"><o:p></o:p></span> <span style="font-family: Calibri;">We all had a bunch of fun, except for poor Scout. She isn’t
a fan of parties and she was getting mauled by my sisters all night- ha ha. She still is the custest dog in the whole wide world though!</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I think it helped Jeff realize he is 30? Maybe not though,
his wife does still throw him child-like themed parties, but parties are just
so much more fun that way! I promised him I would NOT throw him another party
next year. It will be a hard promise to keep. Maybe I’ll take him out for
dinner at a nice restaurant or something. He is so awesome and deserves the
best! Can't wait to spend time with him and the rest of the family tomorrow at Thanksgiving. Hope you and yours also have a wonderful turkey day!</span></div>
